Well, our time at Keswick has come to an end and a very sad day it is too. We have had a fab time here, the weather has been beautiful and we have not been bitten much by the wee beasties… I think we left them up in Scotland thank god!
We had a great day with Ant and Lisa despite it being the only rainy day we have had here. I got to hold and cuddle a HUGE owl called Oliver, which is something I have always wanted to do and to top it all I also got my Indian meal, which I have been craving for 8 weeks, so all in all it was a pretty good day.
We have been off on the bikes and walked up and down some very big hills (Skidaw, Catbells, High Spy). I also learned that whenever John suggests we climb up a “few steps” to explore and see where it goes to just ignore him and go the other way… after climbing vertical steps for over an hour we did get to a very stunning tarn below High Stile at Buttermere though so I forgave him.
Next stop… Kirkby Lonsdale where we will be catching up with Dusty and Jean and Hazel.
Top Tips
- Ordnance Survey maps are essential when planning a walk in the hills.
- What goes up the hill… must come back down somewhere!
- Take the tea towel out of the oven before cooking… or even simpler… just don’t put it in there in the first place.
- Don’t try to take a photograph of the sunset at the Castlerigg Stone Circles when the “Bread Snatchers aka Junior CHAVs” have been let off the leash.
- Scottish Midges can survive for 2 weeks stowed away in the awning and lay in wait for the unsuspecting camper and fresh blood!
