A bird in the hand… or two

Well, our time at Keswick has come to an end and a very sad day it is too. We have had a fab time here, the weather has been beautiful and we have not been bitten much by the wee beasties… I think we left them up in Scotland thank god!

We had a great day with Ant and Lisa despite it being the only rainy day we have had here. I got to hold and cuddle a HUGE owl called Oliver, which is something I have always wanted to do and to top it all I also got my Indian meal, which I have been craving for 8 weeks, so all in all it was a pretty good day.
We have been off on the bikes and walked up and down some very big hills (Skidaw, Catbells, High Spy). I also learned that whenever John suggests we climb up a “few steps” to explore and see where it goes to just ignore him and go the other way… after climbing vertical steps for over an hour we did get to a very stunning tarn below High Stile at Buttermere though so I forgave him.

Next stop… Kirkby Lonsdale where we will be catching up with Dusty and Jean and Hazel.

Top Tips
  1. Ordnance Survey maps are essential when planning a walk in the hills.
  2. What goes up the hill… must come back down somewhere!
  3. Take the tea towel out of the oven before cooking… or even simpler… just don’t put it in there in the first place.
  4. Don’t try to take a photograph of the sunset at the Castlerigg Stone Circles when the “Bread Snatchers aka Junior CHAVs” have been let off the leash.
  5. Scottish Midges can survive for 2 weeks stowed away in the awning and lay in wait for the unsuspecting camper and fresh blood!
PS. Rob we have also seen some nesting Ospreys.
