The Highlanders...

Will whoever is doing the Scottish rain dance please stop now… we know the gardens need watering but we would quite like to climb Ben Nevis before we have to set off for Oban and all this rain is not helping!!!

Despite the weather, we have had a nice couple of days. We took the train from Fort William to Mallaig, which was voted ‘one of the worlds most scenic railway journeys’ and the views were exactly as promised… Sarah made us do the sensible ‘budget’ version of course, so we took the normal train rather than the steam train but the view was the same and it saved us £75, which we can put towards more beer. We took about 300 photos out of the train window and managed a couple of good shots. Sarah got excited at taking the ‘Best picture of the day’ and then accidentally deleted it… she should have been blonde really!!

Yesterday we drove the 120 miles up to Skye to see what we had missed out on our original plans to spend a week there. On route, we called in at Eilean Donan castle, which was featured in the film Highlander and it is easy to see why it is the most photographed castle in Britain. The Skye Bridge was a bit of a disappointment but at least it was open and not too windy. The drive up to Portree took in the mountain views; however, we both agreed that a week there might have sent us a bit stir crazy with the gale force winds and rain!!

Today we woke up to SUNSHINE so we skipped breakfast and went out on the bikes before the rain came. It was not far away and about 2 miles down the road the heavens opened and we were drenched but it was good fun anyway and we got some more great photos.

Benny says “Hi”, he is just chilling on the sofa. He seems to have settled into the gypsy lifestyle quite easily and has been behaving himself… well most of the time!

Fingers crossed we will get clear weather for Ben Nevis so long as the person who has mastered the Scottish rain dance sits out the next couple of songs!

  2. Sounds like you're having a great time despite the weather. Fingers crossed for a swift improvement and then it'll be worth the wait. Richard says if it makes you feel better even in sunny weather the summit of Ben Nevis is nearly always covered in cloud. Not convinced that'll help...Richard and Jayne
