Trial run to Boroughbridge

Well, we have just returned from our “trial run” and many lessons have been learnt!!!!

1: You can not turn corners with bikes and a caravan attached to our Landrover… always a useful thing to know before embarking on a 2500 mile trip round the UK. Needless to say the bikes have now been ditched and are back living in the garage.

2: Satellites!!!!! Where are they all hiding cos our satellite dish could not find any… another item joining the bikes back in the garage.

3: We learned it was neither big nor clever to pour water onto a gas BBQ especially if you want it to light in time for tea.

4: Discovered that oven chips which say they take 15 mins actually take 45 mins in a caravan oven… fortunately we were waiting for the BBQ to dry out and re-light so nothing lost.

5: Always befriend someone who may be of help at a later date – i.e. someone with the same awning as you. I thought I might also befriend people with bikes now as well… surely they can not be using them every day!!!!

6: Be very gentle when dismantling awning poles or they may just snap.

Well they were just a few of the lessons learned but generally all went well.

Everything fit in the car (including all John’s shoes and handbags… sorry I mean rucksacks!!) and now we have abandoned the bikes there is an extra 35kg for vodka, wine and beer… oh happy days.

The sun shone and Fountains Abbey was a lovely day out (and free thanks to our new National Trust membership), though I did suggest they got the roof fixed in time for winter.

Practicing for the sheep trials....
